In an episode of the Antiques Roadshow, Scottish owners of a glass bowl - one that they found at a car boot sale for £1 - were left shocked when the item was valued at £25,000. The bowl had been bought for use as a planter and then stored in the loft for several years. It was almost put in the rubbish bin but saved simply because the Roadshow was coming to town. The bowl was later sold at a Christie's auction for £32,450. 

Also Middle Eastern and Oriental glass can be very collectable. A rare Mamluk enamelled glass basin was sold at Sotheby's for £3,093,500 and a A Mamluk enamelled glass and gilded clear glass jug sold at Christie's (Collection of the late baroness Batsheva de Rothschild) for £3,303,750.
