The Market for Vintage Cars & Racing Memorabilia

After a dramatic dip in prices ten years ago, the market has slowly recovered and an upward trend is still occurring. At a recent Bonhams auction at London Olympia, 95% of the cars auctioned were sold. One of these was a 1906 Rolls-Royce Tourer, which sold for £441,500. It is one of the two remaining survivors of the 17 like it that were built and the sixth oldest Rolls Royce in the world. It's not unusual for valuable cars to turn up unexpectedly, hidden away at the back of an unused garage or an old barn. In 2007, a 1937 Bugatti 57S Atalante was discovered in a garage after the owner sadly passed away. The car had been parked there since the tax disc expired in 1960 and nobody in the family knew how much the car was actually worth. It was later auctioned by Bonhams for nearly £3 million.

Automobilia items are to consider as well. Some parts of cars were literally treated as works of art. One can easily think about the Rolls Royce hood ornament sculptures or 'mascots'. These were actually among the first ones made and designed by Charles Sykes in 1910, The Spirit of Ectsasy has become that iconic image for Rolls Royce still highly recognisable nowadays. Also René Lalique, though better known for his vases and lights, designed some ornamental sculptures for cars as well, in the first half of the 20th century. In June 2005, in the Antiques Roadshow, a Hood ornament sculpture designed by Harriet Frishmuth in 1923 was appraised for $20,000-30,000. She was an American sculptor, and studied in Paris with Auguste Rodin.

Determining the Value of a Classic Car

A number of factors can influence your classic car's appraisal value. These include the condition of both the exterior and the interior, the engine, the age, the make, the rarity and the amount of restoration or alteration that the classic car has undergone. There are a number of online vintage car price guides in order to help you determine the value of your car, but this can be somewhat limiting, as many factors constitute the appraisal of your car or car memorabilia. By using the classic car appraisal service from Value My Stuff Now, you can find out the value of your classic car quickly, easily and from the comfort of your own home. Simply upload a photograph to get started.
